Edward Schoennagel, Jr. Obituary

Edward Frederick Schoennagel, Jr., 96, of South Heidelberg Township, passed away in the morning hours Sunday, December 29, 2024, in his residence.

He was the husband of Edith E. (née Forry) Schoennagel

Born Monday, January 23, 1928, in Reading, he was a son of the late Margaret (neé Brightbill) Schoennagel and Edward F. Schoennagel, Sr.

Ed graduated from Muhlenberg High School in 1946.  He served our country as a corporal in the US Army during the Korean War.  He later attended the Philadelphia Institute of Barbering, becoming a certified cosmetology teacher and barber manager. He worked in the Philadelphia area, and later for years as a beautician at Adolf’s Coiffeurs, then as a barber at Greg’s Barbershop, both in Shillington, retiring in 2006.  Edward loved to hike, hunt, gardening, and do outdoor projects.  He was a lifelong member of the Lebanon Valley Sportsman Association.  Ed was also a talented wood carver, having been chosen to restore the Last Supper carving and Calvary Reformed Church, Reading, and making numerous other carvings

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister: Margaret Schoennagel; his children: Cathy A. (Nicholas) Grajewski, Dolores E. Portner, widow of Greg Portner, Phyllis L Schoennagel (Henry Merrill), & Edward M. (Shari) Schoennagel; his grandchildren:

Amanda, Megan, Keegan, Hannah, Brant, Soren, Angela, Ross, Michael, Connor, Holly, & Michelle; and sixteen great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brothers: John & Richard Schoennagel; and by his granddaughter: Lexy Portner.

Services and entombment in Pleasant View Mausoleum, will be private and at the convenience of the family.
