Frederick Davis Obituary

Frederick “Fred” W. Davis, age 81, passed away on January 11, 2025 at Avow Hospice Center in Naples, Florida surrounded by his family. He will be missed by his wife and partner for 59 years, Barbara, and his three children, Steven (Kathryn) Davis of Sudbury, MA, Michael (Karen) Davis of Fleetwood, PA, and Susan (Lee) Greenberg of Horsham, PA, and fourteen grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Nadine Kern of Cocoa, FL, Bernice Hall of Marlton, NJ, and sister-in-law Marianna Oglesby of San Antonio, Texas. Fred was a life member of St. Daniel’s Lutheran Church in Robesonia. Among many leadership roles, he chaired the annual Vespers Service committee for 19 years and was a member of the choir for more than 60 years.

A graduate in 1961 from Conrad Weiser High School, he earned a bachelors’ degree in Horticulture in 1965 from Penn State and a MBA from Lehigh University in 1999. Fred was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and served as President in his senior year. He was a varsity member and captain of the men’s fencing team. Fred served in the Army Artillery at Ft. Sill as an instructor and later as the Battalion Executive Officer of a 105 howitzer company in South Korea.

Born on April 27, 1943, Fred was the son of the late Warren F. and May A. Davis. He grew up in the retail florist business working alongside his father in Wernersville (Warren Davis Florist) and eventually took over as sole owner of Davis Florists. He held numerous leadership roles in local and state florist associations and was a member of the floral design team for the 1989 and 2005 Presidential Inaugural Balls.

After selling his business, Fred worked 15 years for Penn State in several roles in the Cooperative Extension program retiring in 2006 as the Southeast Region Director for Cooperative Extension and Outreach, managing programs and administration for 140 educators across 9 county extension offices.

Fred was a long time Rotarian with both membership in the Conrad Weiser and Spring Township Centennial clubs. He is a three-time Paul Harris Fellow. He also chaired the Camp Neidig Leadership Camp District Committee for many years. He served as Judge of Elections in Spring Township and he volunteered at the Reading hospital as a certified amputee support counselor. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and loved spending winters at their family home in Naples, FL.

Services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Daniel’s Lutheran Church, Robesonia.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Church.

Interment will follow at Heidelberg Cemetery, Robesonia.

Cole Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Robesonia is handling arrangements.
