George F. Strickler, age 83, of Newmanstown passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.
He was born in Newmanstown on December 6, 1942 a son of the late Raymond and Sarah (Meiser) Strickler.
He was a graduate of ELCO High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War.
George was employed at Bethlehem Steel in Lebanon and later at Kountry Kraft Kitchens in Newmanstown. In retirement, he worked at Dutchway in Myerstown.
He was a life member of the Womelsdorf Rod & Gun, the Womelsdorf V.F.W., the Newmanstown Athletic Association, and the Marion Rod & Gun. He loved antique cars and attending car shows. He enjoyed going out to dinner with Phoebe and their trips to the shore in Ocean City, MD. He also loved playing Legion baseball and the Newmanstown Maroons, and watching ballgames.
He is survived by his loving companion of 30 years, Phoebe L. Merkel; he was very fond of Phoebe’s son, Chris Merkel, and grandson, Keldon; a sister, Linda Derr; a brother, Larry Strickler; and numerous nieces & nephews.
He was also predeceased by siblings, Barbara Schwalm, John Strickler, Terry Strickler, Dick Strickler, and Bobby Strickler; and his dog, Hunter.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Cole Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Robesonia is handling arrangements.
