James L. Zollers, Jr. , 80, formerly of Birdsboro, PA passed away at the Mifflin Center on June 22 , 2025.
Born in Phoenixville, PA, Jim was the only son of James L. Zollers, Sr. and Anna Mowere Smith Zollers. He graduated from Spring-Ford High School in 1962, a proud member of their marching band. He trained as a Medical Corpsman for the US Army and performed in the US Army Band as a trombonist in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Jim went on to attend West Chester University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1969. While at WCU he performed in several musical groups, most notably the Criterions jazz group. Jim continued to thrive in the world of music after graduation, playing trombone, tuba, guitar, bass guitar, and banjo, as well as singing. He toured with the Bobby Mercer Band, performed with the Ringgold Band, and played in many other local bands. He was a founding member of The Last Big Band and cherished the friendships he shared with his fellow band members. Besides being a musician, Jim also created handmade signs and worked as a massage therapist. He loved to garden with his wife, Marcia, growing vegetables, berries, herbs, flowers and pussywillows. Jim was a collector of everything, from rocks to colorful bottles, interesting gourds and brass hose nozzles and so much more! Jim and Marcia loved spending time at the shore in Ocean City, NJ and always invited friends to come with them. They also roamed around the United States and traveled to Europe several times, enjoying the food and sights with friends in Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
Jim is survived by his sisters-in-law, Lisa Fravel and Suzanne Cummins (James) and brother-in-law, Roger Moyer and several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcia Moyer; his son, James Christopher (Chris) Zollers and his brother-in-law, David Moyer.
The family would like to thank Andi Lydon for the loving care she provided Jim over the last few years.
