Joan V. Blessel

Joan Virginia Blessel (Wegemer), 93,  passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Lutheran Home in Kane, Pa, on January 6, 2025.

Born August 28, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin Wegemer and Rachel Pearl Miller.  She lived in Saint Marys and Daguscahonda most of her life.  She retired from Saint Marys Carbon where she worked for 34 years.

She had married Patrick R Blessel on January 14, 1950 and they had four children, Daniel Patrick, Thomas Harold (Leigh), Michael Alan (Carol), and Wendy Jo Catalano.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Joe Blessel, Pete Blessel, and Amanda Catalano, and nine great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jessica Catalano and Tracy Blessel, and her former husband Patrick.

Joan loved all animals and was a patron saint to every stray who came her way. Caring for her pets was her mission.   She loved to read and was very generous of her time and resources to help others.

There will be no public viewing.  In lieu of flowers, Joan would ask any donations be made to Elk County Humane Society, 1029 E. Eshbach Rd, St Marys, Pa 15857.
