Following a 5-month battle with cancer, Judith Anne Gromis, 76, of Concord, NC and formerly of Robesonia passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at her residence in Concord.
Judi was born on September 23, 1945, in Reading to the late Harry Leon Werner and the late Margaret May Hermansader Werner. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, John Gromis, her son, Christopher J. Gromis, her daughter of three months, Stacy Leigh and her brother, George Werner.
Judi is survived by her son, Timothy (Christi), granddaughters Hannah and Ava, brother, Harry “Butch” Werner, sisters Margaret “Sis” Clayman and Jeanne Henry, and an extended loving family. We will all miss her more than words can express.
Judi grew up in Robesonia and was a 1963 graduate of Conrad Weiser High School. She then married her sweetheart John Gromis and traveled with him to several Army bases during his term of service in the military. John and Judi’s marriage was one of faith, devotion, sacrifice, courage and strength, a cherished legacy. Judi was a loving and devoted mother to her two sons. She served as a Sunday school teacher, den mother and helped to start the Little People’s Nursery School at Trinity Lutheran Church in Robesonia. She also worked as a lunch aide at Conrad Weiser East Elementary School in Wernersville. Judi always approached this work as a ministry and sought out children from poor economic conditions to help in her capacity as a lunch aide. She served on the local library board and was an avid reader with her favorite genre being history. In 2010, after she and John retired, they moved to Concord, NC to be near their son Tim and his family. Judi was a wonderful Gammy to her two granddaughters and enjoyed spending quality time with them playing games, watching movies, and supporting their interests. Judi had a gift for encouraging others and touched the lives of many as she looked for ways to be a blessing. She had a beautiful warm smile and was beloved by her friends and family.
