Muriel Himmelberger Obituary

Muriel Florence Himmelberger
June 23, 1929 - Nov. 25, 2025
Muriel Florence Himmelberger, a longtime resident of Robesonia, Pa., died on Nov. 25, 2025, at
Columbia Cottage, Wyomissing, where she had resided for the last 10 years. She was 96.
Born on June 23, 1929, Muriel was the daughter of Marvin and Martha (Bleeker) Marks. She graduated as
valedictorian of her class at Shillington High School and went on to Bloomsburg State Teachers College
where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1950.
After brief stints teaching business and English at schools in Sinking Spring and Muhlenberg, she joined
the faculty at Conrad Weiser High School in 1958 when she was tapped to develop the business education
curriculum. Popular among students, Muriel enjoyed teaching bookkeeping and office practice classes
until 1969 when she shifted her attention to new priorities.
On Aug. 26, 1956, Muriel married Richard Himmelberger, who for many years owned and operated The
Sport Shop in Womelsdorf. While raising their two daughters, she handled the accounting and
bookkeeping for the business. She also served for many years as secretary of St. Daniel’s Lutheran
Church in Robesonia and lent her beautiful alto voice to the church choir.
Muriel’s life and career took yet another turn after her husband’s death in 1985. She sold the sporting
goods store and became a human resources specialist, most recently at RAM Industries in Leesport. Like
her years in the classroom, she developed close relationships with many coworkers. She worked fulltime
until age 80 when she retired and devoted her time to her many interests, including knitting, reading,
besting her family in Trivial Pursuit and Cranium, spoiling her rescue cats, and cheering on the
Philadelphia Phillies.
Muriel Himmelberger is survived by her two daughters, Stacey (Christopher Militello) of Clinton, N.Y.,
and Amy of Freehold N.J., and three grandchildren, Maggie Haag (Jonah Feitelson), C.J. Militello, and
Libby Militello.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Muriel’s honor to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA  19508 or www.berksarl.org
