Robert E. "Bob" Fidler, 87, entered into eternal life on January 15, 2025, surrounded by the ones he lived for and loved. He was born in Marion Twp., Berks Co., PA, a son of the late George W. & Edna M. (Marberger) Fidler, on March 10, 1937. He was the great-great-grandson of William & Sarah Fidler of Wayne Twp., Schuylkill Co., PA, and the 8th generation Fidler of Gottfried Fidler, who immigrated from Hanua, Germany in 1710.
He graduated from the Conrad Weiser Joint High School (Womelsdorf) class of 1955. He continued his education at Thompson Institute, Harrisburg, where he studied data processing. He served in the PA National Guard from 1954-1962. He attended the School of Aviation Medicine at Gunther Air Force Base, Alabama, and continued to serve his country as a computer programmer with DLA (Defense Logistics Agency), retiring in 1992. He was an original member of the Conrad Weiser Coin Club and kept a keen eye on the stock market as a member of the Central PA Investment Club. He enjoyed bowling in the Lebanon Valley Church League, as well as various retired leagues.
Alongside his soul-mate, Peg, of 64 years, they were frequent senior witnesses for the PA Lottery Drawings and enjoyed visiting different casinos. He was recently inducted into the PA Hall of Fame Voters for voting for 50 consecutive years. He was a member of the 148th Fighter Squadron Assn.; Womelsdorf Fire Co.; Tulpehocken Settlement Historical Society; Pine Grove Historical Society; Branches of Berks; and the Berks County Genealogical Society. As a member of NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees), he served many years as the Service Officer for the local Lebanon Chapter 458 and the Womelsdorf Alumni Association.
He was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Annville, PA, serving on various committees and on the church council. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Womelsdorf, his home church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. "Peg" (Longenecker) Fidler; his children: Jacqueline M. Szajnuk, Robert G. Fidler, & Edwin E. Fidler; his grandchildren: Amanda M. Fidler-Houtz, Alicia E. Fidler-Light, Samantha M. Szajnuk, Robert G. Fidler II, & Abbigail H. Fidler; his great grandchildren: Adaline C. Houtz, Aria R. Houtz, Anastasia E. Houtz, Ethan J. Light, Aubrey A. Light, & Ashlyn R. Dehart.
Bob was predeceased by his siblings: George H. Fidler, Barbara A. Fidler, & Violet A. (Fidler) Aulenbach.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 11 AM, at Zion Lutheran Church, 300 West High St., Womelsdorf, with the Rev. Dr. Wayne A. Heintzelman, officiating. A private burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the church.
