Robert R Shartle

Robert R. Shartle, 92, of Womelsdorf, passed away in the evening hours Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in the Wyomissing Health & Rehabilitation Center. 

On October 8, 1955, he married Elsie E. (neé Hartman) Shartle, who died November 10, 2023.

Born Friday, April 22, 1932, in Womelsdorf, he was a son of the late Harry F. & Dorothy R. (neé Miller) Shartle.

A 1950 graduate of Womelsdorf High School, Bob was a member of the United Church of Christ of Robesonia.  Bob worked for the former Grimes Appliance & Repair, and the Sheridan Furnace. He retired from the PA Turnpike Commission having worked as an electrician.

Bob proudly served in the US Air Force from 1951-1955.  His other lifetime achievements include: VFW Post 6558 Commander, Quarter Master for 35 years, Color Guard Member & Bowling Team Member; Scotland School for Veterans Children Volunteer; Lebanon VA Hospital Volunteer; Meals on Wheels Volunteer; 1962 Womelsdorf Bicentennial Committee; 2012 Womelsdorf 250 Anniversary Committee; Womelsdorf Borough Council Member 6 years; Womelsdorf Sewer Authority member 28 years; Womelsdorf Germany Visitors Sponsor; Womelsdorf War Memorial Rebuild Committee; Marty Hartranft Memorial Committee; Organized and Placed Flags on Veterans graves at the Zion & Womelsdorf Union Cemeteries; Placed Flags in Womelsdorf and Conrad Weiser Park; Maintained the flag drop box located at Conrad Weiser True Value; POS of A member for over 30 years; POS of A camp 113 President; POS of A Berks County President; POS of A Man of the Year recipient; POS of A Life Time Patriot Award recipient; and a life member of the Tulpehocken Settlement Historical Society.

He is survived by his children: Sharon K. (Scott) Shultz & Robert J. (Beth Ann) Shartle; 4 grandchildren & 14 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by siblings: Richard R. & Patricia Shartle; and by a great grandson: Gabriel E. Shultz.

Services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11 AM, from the United Church of Christ of Robesonia, 301 West Penn Avenue, Robesonia, PA 19551.  The family will receive friends following the service with a lunch to follow.  Burial in Zion Lutheran & Reformed Cemetery, Womelsdorf, is private.
