Wayne L. Stertzel

Wayne L. Stertzel, age 81, of Jefferson Twp, passed into heaven on Sunday June 1, 2025.

Born March 23, 1944 in Upper Tulpehocken Township, Berks, PA he was the son of Lester Wayne Stertzel and Marguerite (Wagner) Stertzel.

He graduated from Hamburg Area High School in 1962, where he met his late wife Sandra J. Stertzel (Miller) to whom he was married for 60 years.

After graduation he attended Penn State Berks as part of Textile Machine Works apprenticeship program where he obtained his Associates degree in Engineering. Wayne went on to work for Textile Machine Works. Upon its closing, he later worked for Rockwell, Arrow International, and Dana Corporation. In his advanced years, Wayne went on to farm his family's land.

Wayne will most be remembered for his love of the outdoors. He honored his heritage of farming the earth which has been in the family since the 1730s.  He was also an avid sportsman. His greatest passions were fishing and hunting, especially for deer, turkey, and waterfowl. 

Wayne leaves behind a long legacy. He is survived by two sons Terry L. Stertzel (Kelly), and Kevin W. Stertzel (Theresa); a daughter, Diane R. Stertzel; a sister, Doris Gechter; six grandchildren, Hope, Heidi, Hannah, Haley, Hugh and Quinn Stertzel; and three great grandsons Caleb, Anthony, and Alexander. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Cole Funeral Home, 402 E. Penn Ave., Robesonia. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:30 to 11:00 AM at Cole Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, 100 Museum Rd., Stevens, PA 17578.
